IMPHAL, Feb 14: Reacting against the alleged irresponsible and unofficial attitude of the United Naga Council (UNC) officials towards the Zeliangrong Union (Assam, Manipur and Nagaland), the latter has decided to boycott the celebration of Lui-Ngai-Ni 2008 slated to be held at United College Lambung Chandel district headquarters under the theme “Enriching culture for posterity”. The decision to boycott the festival was adopted in an emergency meeting of the ZU after minutely studying the irresponsible and unofficial attitude of the UNC officials, claimed a statement issued by general secretary of Zeliangrong Union (AMN) Dr S Xavier Pamei today.

CCpur meet sends famine SoS
Lamka, Feb 12: Public leaders attending the Mualnuam village conference on combating famine at Thanlon sub division have issued a declaration today that the impending famine is a result of crop failure, bamboo flowering and man-made disasters.
In the declaration it said the state government has to report about the situation as has been done by Mizoram to the appropriate authority.
While appreciating the government effort to tide over the situation it went on to say that such efforts are not adequate at this hour of crisis.
While urging the government to do more, it said all the PDS items like rice, sugar, wheat and K oil earmarked for the district should be fully delivered on a regular basis.
To combat famine taking place in the interior areas transportation problem is the biggest stumbling block and the government has to do what it can to ensure there are good roads in the interior areas, it said.
Moreover, it went on to say that all families living in the famine affected villages should be put in the BPL list for purpose of facilitating the PDS items urging the government to arrenge for creation of credit facility of 6 months for delivery of PDS items.
It has demanded the government construct 5000 MT capacity storage at Lamka in Churachandpur.
