Run for Peace
IMPHAL, Mar 30: 32 Assam Rifles today organised ‘Run for Peace’ to commemorate the 174th Raising Day of Assam Rifles. The run organised with an aim to spread the message of peace and development among multi-ethnic population of Manipur was flagged off from Hao Ground by AVSM, IGAR (South) Maj Gen BK Chengappa.
More than 1000 participants took part in the run. Similar runs were also organised by different battalions of Assam Rifles at different places.
KSO Chandel refutes
IMPHAL, Mar 30: Alleging for infringement in their jurisdiction, KSO Chandel district sought clarification from AMSU by March 31 on the allegation levelled against the Principal of Moreh College in the alleged dubious dealing between one lecturer Waikhom Brojen and six students.
Maintaining that KSO Chandel has investigated the matter and found the charges made against the Principal by AMSU was baseless, the Kuki students’ body asserted that no students’ body has the right to impose or revoke forced retirement to any staff of the college, which according to them (KSO Chandel) comes under their jurisdiction.
Asking why AMSU did not take up stern action against the six students if the students’ body really concerned about the affair, KSO also alleged AMSU for maligning the image of Moreh College by levelling wrong allegations to its Principal.
Body taken
IMPHAL, Mar 30: Body of Serabhanu (23), who was shot dead by unidentified persons on March 28 at near her Keirao Makting Makha Leikai residence, has been claimed by the family members after the post mortem at RIMS morgue today.
Unidentified body: Identity is yet to be established of the suspected UG activist who was shot dead by Thoubal police commandos yesterday evening at Charangpat. The corpse is still laying at the RIMS morgue.
Awareness prog
IMPHAL, Mar 30: An awareness programme on Health Insurance Scheme and Mahatma Gandhi Bunkar Bima Yojana taken up for the welfare of handloom weavers was held today at Hotel Mass, Assembly road here.
The awareness programme was organised by the Weavers Service Centre, Imphal under the aegis of the Development Commissioner (Handlooms), Ministry of Textiles, New Delhi.
KSO Tuilang urges
IMPHAL, Mar 30: Seeking for a spot enquiry, KSO Tuilang Block expressed resentment over the submission of completion report by the concerned contractor without even roofing the half of Chalwa Government Junior High School. The students’ body however appreciated the completion of Gelnal Government School building in time. KSO Tuilang also welcomed Government’s decision to repaire Hydro Power Station at Gelnal. KSO Tuilang also informed the concerned authority that the repairing work on the IT road has no recent progress. Urging for a strict vigil on the work, KSO Tuilang also appealed the concerned to complete the construction before rainy season comes.
Valedictory function
IMPHAL, Mar 30: MSME Development Institute in association with All Manipur Entrepreneurs Association organised awareness campaign on ‘Credit Linked Capital Subsidy Scheme (CLCSS)’ on March 29. About 50 persons
participated the programme. The institute also organised valedictory function of ESDP training programme on ‘Repair and Service of Mobile Handset’ for educated youths on March 26 at Service Institute, Konung Mamang. MSME Development Institute organised valedictory function of ESDP training programme on tailoring and cutting for minority community on March 22 at Sugnu.
Sit-in protest staged
IMPHAL, Mar 30: Kakching Bazar Business Welfare Association today staged a sit-in protest against the killing of 15 non-Manipuri labourers, three civilians at Heirok and two women at Thoubal Khekman. The protest was taken part by around 1000 people belonging to different communities including former Ministers Ksh Irabot and N Nimai and former MLA Y Thambal, councillors of Kakching Municipal Council and businessmen of the town.
10 AR restricts villagers
IMPHAL, Mar 30: 10 AR posted at Sajik Tampak and Chamol restricted villagers of Tupi Ching and Cheljang Joupi of Chandel district from carrying more than 5 kg of rice per day. It was complained to Manipur Forward Youth Front MAFYF by the villagers of these two villages. As there is no public transport facility between these two villages and Sajik Tampak and Sugnu, villagers have to travel on foot to buy the essentials.
With the restriction came into effect, the villagers have to travel this long journey everyday on foot . MAFYF in a press release asserted that the organisation would look into the matter and take up action against the concerned.
Thang Ta festival
IMPHAL, Mar 30: Under the aegis of Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi, Kangleipak Thang-Ta Cultural Association in collaboration with Association for Paona Memoial Arts and Rural Development Service, Thoubal will organise a Thang Ta festival on March 31 for women artists at the auditorium of SEMAA, Thoubal.
Kshetrigao MLA Th Nandakishor, Thoubal District Congress Committee president G Gourakishore Sharma and renown theatre personality Wareppa Naba will grace the function as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Power tower collapses
IMPHAL, March 31: The 132 kv line, which transmits power from Yurembam Power Station to Mao/Kohima via Karong has been disrupted with the collapsed of one A type tower near Sapermeina at Laikot/Bomgmol, Senapati district, said a release of Superintending Engineer Transmission Circle of Electricity Department.
The tower was destroyed by the storm came this morning at around 3:15 am. Power supply at Karong will be affected till the restoration work is completed, the release added.
FOSS 2008 from today
IMPHAL, Mar 30: With an aim to spread awareness of Open Source Software and related development in Information Technology to the people of Manipur, Linux Manipur and Computer Science Department of Manipur University will organise an event entitled ‘Free and Open Source Software’ (FOSS) on March 31 and April 1 at Indoor Stadium of Manipur University.
Naturopathy camp
IMPHAL, Mar 30: Nature Cure and Yoga Hospital, Kongba Kshetri Leikai organised a two-day free naturopathy and yoga treatment cum training camp on March 22 and 23 at Panthoibi Mandop, Kongba Kshetri Leikai. Thirty four trainees took part in the camp.
