KRA (U) admits killing KRA chief

IMPHAL, Apr 2: Finally the KRA (U) has claimed responsibility for killing KRA chief Hangshing in November last year at Delhi.
Briefing media persons at a place somewhere in Kangpokpi today, vice-president of the KRA (U) Alen gave several reasons for eliminating Hangshing.
When he was the leader of KRA, Hangshing in connivance with the chief of Jalenphai village located under Saikul sub-division, bought the village in his name using party fund.
Infuriated with the activities of Hangshing, four cadres of the outfit linked up with Assam Rifles and started plotting to effect the arrest of party cadres.
In the subsequent development, Hangshing shot dead KRA deputy commander in-chief Paominthang alias Collins, captain Seilen alias Robert, maj Max, Jamthang of Kuki Inpi Saikul and Takhellambam Nando of Kairang.
The corpse of Nando cannot be located till date.
Further, Hangshing murdered Paolun Chongloi, Paocha Chongloi, Lalminthang Chongloi and Romen Chongloi, disclosed Alen.
Because of all these criminal activities, the KRA (U) was compelled to eliminate Hangshing, he stated.
He further clarified that the elimination of K Hangshing was not connected in any manner with Seitinmang Chongloi, Bungkholal Chongloi, Paojang Chongloi, Nejahen Chongloi and Guna of Kairang.
Stating that Seitinmang Chongloi was not president of the KRA (U), vice-president Alen informed that he has been acting as president of the outfit following the arrest of president David from Dimapur.
Terming the recent killing of four persons including Seitinmang Chongloi by the KRA for their alleged involvement in the elimination of Hangshing, Alen asserted that the activity cannot be related to the KRA (U).
The four went to attend a negotiation meeting aimed at ending the feud between Hangshing and Chongloi families.
But they were executed by the KRA on the false allegation of their involvement in the killing of K Hangshing.
Alen further informed that training of the newly recruited KRA (U) cadres will be completed soon.

Mayailambi bandh from today
IMPHAL, Apr 2: As the State Government failed to respond positively to their demands, the JAC constituted against the killing of L Uttamkuamr called indefinite bandh at Mayailambi from 6 am of April 3. Urging the public to cooperate with their agitation, JAC warned with dare consequences if anybody tries to come out against the bandh.
Meanwhile, expressing concern over the killing, Apunba Lup today warned that the Lup would not remain silent if the Government does not punish the police personnel involved in the killing.

IMPHAL, Apr 2: Manipur Hill Areas Autonomous District Council sent a memorandum to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh urging to intervene personally to restore elections of the Council on time. The memorandum conveyed that the State Government had suspended Council elections from 1989 and turned a deaf ear to the repeated request in this regard.

IMPHAL, Apr 2: AMSU will organise 18th Realization Day on April 17 at Students’ Memorial at Pishum Ching with offering of floral tributes to the martyrs of April 17, 1980. AMSU also informed the unit branches and members of the district committees that an emergency general body meeting of the union will be held on April 4 at 11 am.

IMPHAL, Apr 2: All Chief Medical Officer and Programme Officers under the Directorate of Health Services have been asked to furnish names of Health Supervisors having minimum qualification of Science Graduate (Chemistry as one of the main subjects) for deployment/placement as District Food Inspectors at the office of the Chief Medical Officers cum local health authorities on or before April 15, said a notification issued by Director of Health Services Dr Th Suresh.
After scrutiny, recommended candidates will be sent for training on food inspection and sampling before deployment/placement, it added.
Meet held on suspicious death

IMPHAL, Apr 2: A public meeting held today at Laphupat Tera on the suspicious death of Okram ongbi Ningthoujam Ranjana of Sekmaijin Khunou on March 21 has resolved to urge upon the authority to punish the culprits in fitting manner.
The meeting presided by president of Nupi Samaj K Taruni and Joy Nongmaithem condemned the failure of the police to establish facts and circumstances of the death even as the main suspect Ranjit has surrendered to police.
Ranjit is the husband of Ranjana.
It decided to urge upon the authority concerned to establish the circumstances leading to the death of Ranjana at the earliest.
Other resolutions adopted in the meeting include handing over all the properties of Ranjana and Ranjit to their four children.
Following the suspicious death of Ranjana due to burn injuries, her husband Ranjit surrendered to the police. Moreover, the enraged parental family and a mob vandalised and set afire the house of Ranjit.
Stir threat

IMPHAL, Apr 2: All the elected members of Bishnupur Zilla Parishad have been intimated that a special meeting of Bishnupur Zilla Parishad will be held on April 11 at 10 am at the conference hall of Bishnupur Mini Secretariat for consideration of no confidence motion against the Adhyaksha and the Up-Adhyaksha of Bishnupur Zilla Parishad, conveyed CEO of Bishnupur Zilla Parishad Kh Raghumani in a release.
One missing
Lamka, Apr 2: A 47 year old man, resident of M Gangpijang village located 10 kms south west of Lamka police station went missing on March 31 at around 4:30 pm from his residence and remains untraced till today.
Family sources said the missing person identified as Jamkhothang had just arrived from a prayer service at Henglep sub-divisional Hqs before he excused himself for peeing and went missing. He is said to have even enter his house and had barely placed his luggage on the verandah.
An FIR in this regard has been lodged at the police station here, and his relatives has appealed to inform the police if any one finds a man of his age with black shirt and pants with Kitto chapal.
Bridge closed
IMPHAL, Apr 2: As the old bridge located at Nunglei-band village along Old Cachar Road (Tongjei Maril) is facing the possibility of break down any time following construction of a new bailey bridge just adjacent to it, all loaded heavy vehicles have been banned from crossing over the bridge with effect from March 3, said a notification issued by the Executive Engineer of PWD Bishnupur Division.
The ban will remain in place for 15 days, it added.

Condolence
IMPHAL, Apr 2: District Administration, Senapati in an emergency meeting held at the office of the Deputy Commissioner condoled the death of District Agricultural Officer Th Rajamani Singh. The district administration also shared the grief and pain of the bereaved family.

Cable theft
Lamka, Apr 2: Two professional robbers who usually act out during the death of the night were paraded yesterday by Zomi Revolutionary Army here. The duo caught red handed with the cables were allegedly involved in the ring that often pilfer telephone and TV cables in recent days.
A warning not to repeat the same has been given to them before they were let off and numerous items were also recovered. A gang of seven burglars, responsible in stealing at least 500 meters of communication wires have already been apprehended last week by the same outfit.
