ZSU concerned over work quality
IMPHAL, May 31: The Zeliangrong Students’ Union, Temenglong district and Zeliangrong Students’ Union, Tamei area have conveyed deep concern over the bridge construction work along New Katang to Dikiuram road which connects Manipur with Nagaland.
During a visit to the work site by a team of ZSU volunteers yesterday, it was found that unskilled labourers were being engaged for the bridge construction work without any guidance from engineers, conveyed a ZSU release.
The foundation for the pillars of the bridge was also found on the sandy soil, not reaching up to the stable soil. Moreover, one pillar was found leaning towards Barak river. Taking strong exception to the alleged lack of quality in the bridge construction work and failure on the part of the Works Department to monitor the construction work, the student body has sought attention of the Works Minister as well as the local MLA to look into the matter and to take up corrective measures.

Workshop concludes
IMPHAL, May 31: Along with valedicatory function of the non-residential arts and cultural workshop being organised by PEACE Thoubal since April 10, the second foun- dation day of PEACE was observed at Thoubal Waikhom Lampak today.
Health Minister Ph Parijat Singh, Joint Director of Art and Culture Dr K Subita and ex-Minister N Nara attended the function as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively. Performance of Pung Cholom, Maibi Jagoi, Wari Liba and Lairik Haiba among other cultural items were the main highlights of the function.

All parties meet
IMPHAL, May 31: Follo-wing a special petition filed by the Indo-Myanmar Tri-bal Development Associa- tion before the Supreme Court challenging the ordi-nance of the Union Govern- ment which excluded Mani-pur from the delimitation exercise, a meeting of all political parties was held this evening.
The meeting presided by Chief Minister O Ibobi re-solved to defend the ordi- nance through legal means.
The meeting studied all possible legal means to fight the petition. At present, the Supreme Court is on vacation. It will be back to business on July 7.

IMPHAL, May 31: One week training programme on computer familiarisation for Government employees of Manipur will be organised by MANITRON at its premises, informed a release. The training programme will be opened by the Minister of Commerce and Industries at 9.30 am of June 2, added the release.

Death condoled
IMPHAL, May 31: Members of govening body, teaching and non-teaching staff and students’ union of Jiri College have condoled the death of S Ajit Singh who killed in a tragic road accident on May 29. Ajit was the principal of the college, reports our Jiribam correspondent.
Heirok Pradhan clarifies
IMPHAL, May 31: On the news report that a leech was found in the tap water supplied by Heirok water supply plant, the Gram Panchayat of Heirok Part II has clarified that the leech was not from the water reservoir being used by the water supply plant.
A press release issued by the Pradhan of Heirok GP said that unauthorised connections and making holes in the main pipe line led to inflow of dirty water into the main pipe line. It was from this dirty water that the leech found its way to the tap water. The SO/Mohori of the water supply plant assured that all unauthorised connections will be removed and all the holes will be fitted with taps, conveyed the release. It further appealed to all the people of Heirok not to make unauthorised connections from the main pipe line.

MU appreciates MSF’s concern
IMPHAL, May 31: While appreciating the deep concern shown by the Manipuri Students’ Federation (MSF) in the alleged anomalies in the question setting of the recently concluded BA/BCom 1st and 3rd year examinations, the MU authority said that it is investigating the matter very seriously regarding unitwise weightage of marks and syllabus. A press release issued by the MU PRO informed that the investigation by subject experts is coming to its final stage. Appropriate actions will be initiated against the erring persons after the investigation, it assured.

Stolen vehicle recovered
IMPHAL, May 31: The Jirighat Police in collaboration with Jiri Police have recovered one stolen auto-rickshaw (diesel-operated) bearing registeration no. AS11C-7643 yesterday from Mongbung, Jiri near Manipur Tea Estate, reports our Jiribam corres- pondent.
The joint police team have also apprehended the vehicle lifter identified as Muna Rabi Das (35) of Jirighat, Cachar district, Assam.
The autorickshaw belongs to one Babuchand Deb of Pailapool, Cachar.
While the recovered vehicle is being kept at Jirighat PS and the vehicle lifter has been taken into custody of Lakhipur Police Station.

TMNL office bearers
IMPHAL, May 31: The newly elected executive members of the Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long (TMNL) took charge of their posts during a function held at 2 pm today, informed a release.
The function was attended by representatives of different Tangkhul organisations, senior citizens and well-wishers.
The executive members including president Zanyo Varam and vice-president VV Ngam A Shatsang were elected after its 9th general election held on May 16, added the release.

Farmers appeal
IMPHAL, May 31: The All Manipur Joint Action Committee for Scheme of Debt Waiver and Debt Relief for Farmers, Langthabal has appealed to the Prime Minister to waive off all debts, loan amounts including overdue loans which were taken by its members till December 31, 2007.
A memorandum submitted to the Prime Minister appeal to avail complete loan and debt relief for all loans taken by members of the Committee as a special case for the border state of Manipur, conveyed a release.

IMPHAL, May 31: List of disabled beneficiaries belonging to Imphal West district selected for financial assistance under Economic Rehabilitation Programme 2007-08 may be obtained from the office of the District Social Welfare Office, Imphal West, said a notification issued by District Social Welfare Officer, Imphal West, Jiteshwar Keisham.

IMPHAL, May 31: A parliament session of the All Zeliangrong Students’ Union (AMN) will be held in Zeliangrong House, Tamenglong district Hqs on June 7, informed a release while inviting all constituent units to the session.

IGAR (S) rebuttal
IMPHAL, May 31: Reacting to the charges of UNLF and KYKL, PRO HQ IGAR (S) in a press rebuttal, said the Assam Rifles formations and units deployed in Manipur are carrying out counter insurgency/counter terrorist operations against all outlawed groups as per the policies of the Government.
False and baseless allegations made by terrorists groups are mainly to divert the attention of the public from their nefarious activities and continue with their agenda of carrying out extortion and depriving the State and public from the fruits of development, the PRO said, reiterating that the Assam Rifles troops will continue to carry out effective operations against all terrorists groups as per the laid down policies.
