Patsoi brick kilns closed
IMPHAL, Jun 3: Following huge monetary demands made by UG groups, all the brick kilns located in Patsoi have been closed down from today.
Consequent upon closure of the brick kilns, the labourers who have been left without any work staged wakat meepham at the gates of their respective brick farms today.
During the protest sitting which began at about 7.30 am and continued till 4 pm, the brick farm labourers put up festoons and banners which read as, “Withdraw monetary demands from brick farms”, “Don’t starve labourers”, “Don’t cease brick kilns’ etc.

Bandh called off
IMPHAL, Jun 3: The indefinite Tidim road bandh called against the alleged callous attitude of the Government towards the five individuals who have gone blind after undergoing cataract operation during an eye camp organised by the District Blindness Control Society, Bishnupur on February 23 last year with effect from June 3 midnight has been called off for some time.
A press release issued by the JAC constituted in this connection informed that the decision to call off the bandh was adopted following an understanding with Health Minister Ph Parijat.

Students protest
IMPHAL, Jun 3: Demanding unconditional release of MAFYF president Sapam-cha Kangleipal who has been charged with sedition and lodged in jail under NSA as well as in protest of the firing incidents causing grievous injuries to two students namely Ranjit and Jackie Chan by police commandos, students of CC Hr Secondary School and TG Higher Secondary School today demonstrated.

5 NPCM men, one PREPAK cadre held
IMPHAL, Jun 3: Five cadres of the newly founded United Naga People’s Council (NPCM) have been arrested by Imphal East commandos from different places today, informed a release issued by Addl SP Imphal East Md Quayamuddin Shah.
At about 10 am, Awungshi Danny (31) s/o Awaungshi Kahaoshan of Sorbung village, Ukhrul was arrested from Checkon tribal colony along with one .36 HE hand grenade. Another NPCM cadre identified as Simcon Athing Kasar alias Adam Kasara (32) s/o Kasar Solikap alias Sathing of Khangkhui village, Ukhrul was pulled up from a rented house of Thangmeiband Hijam Leikai along with one 9 mm pistol loaded with 5 rounds.
In the second incident, a combined force of Imphal East commandos and 32 AR apprehended three more NPCM cadres from Lamlong Bazar along with one hand grenade and three demand letters at about 12.20 pm.
The three NPCM cadres are identified as Ningshen Like-son (32) s/o N Benjamin of Tarong Kasom Khullen, Ngangbam Mangil alias Anand alias Bochanao alias Bungocha (20) s/o late Chandrahas of Thangmeiband Lourung Purel Leikai and Mayarngam Muivah alias Christopher (23) s/o late M Khashim Muivah of Moirei village, Ukhrul, added the release.
Meanwhile a press release issued by SP Imphal West L Kailun informed that a PREPAK activist was arrested by Imphal West commandos from RIMS crossing, Lamphel at about 6.10 am today. The PREPAK activist has been identified as Yangambam Tomba (32) s/o Irabot of Thambalkhong Laishram Leikai, it added.

DC Ukhrul hailed
IMPHAL, Jun 3: The Tangkhul Naga Long Ukhrul and Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong Ukhrul have conveyed gratitude to the Deputy Commissioner, Ukhrul district for construction of an inter-village road from Kaphang to Khamasom Phungdhar and a reservoir tank at Shekazhie Ayi under BADP. A press release issued by the two bodies further appealed to the DC to release the sanctioned amount at the earliest.

Deceased identified
IMPHAL, Jun 3: The two individuals shot dead by unidentified persons at Bamdiyar last night have been identified as Ngangom Pinku alias Bicky (26) s/o late Bimol of Uripok Tourangbam Leikai and Heisnam Ibungo alias Bhai alias Somokanta s/o late Kumar of Keishamthong Irom Pukhri Mapal.
In 2001, Pinku was apprehended by security forces on the suspicion of being a KYKL cadre. About three years back, he was again arrested by commandos and was imprisoned under NSA.
Pinku and his wife went to his aunt’s place at Yaiskul Nambul Mapal last afternoon. He was abducted from near the gate of his aunt by two persons in civies who came in a Maruti car, disclosed his wife Rupo Devi.
Both the corpse have been handed over to family members after post mortem at RIMS today.
Meanwhile, post mortem examination of the decayed corpse recovered from Imphal river near Kourou Loukon on May 31 was conducted today at RIMS as an unclaimed body.

Graft noose
IMPHAL, Jun 3: Assam Education Minister Ripun Bora was arrested by Delhi police on Tuesday evening for allegedly trying to bribe the cops, reports NNN. The sources said that the Minister was in New Delhi and that he was supposed to fly back to Assam today evening. Sources further informed that a Guwahati based vernacular journalist was also arrested along with the Minister. The Minister tried to bribe the CBI officer through the journalist and they were caught red handed, said the sources.
