UG cadres apprehended
IMPHAL, May 22: One PLA/RPF activist identified as Thockhom Jotin alias Ibomcha alias Tompok s/o late Th Amutombi of Uripok Huidrom Leikai was apprehended by Imphal West commandos from Sagolband Meino Leirak Machin at about 9.55 pm yesterday, informed SP Imphal West L Kailun in a release.
Further, one PREPAK activist was also pulled up from Ningombam Lamkhai at about 9 am today.
The PREPAK activist is identified as Nandeibam Rupachandra alias Theto (27) s/o late N Sana of Charangpat Mamang Leikai, added the release.

AR interact with civilians
IMPHAL, May 22: A meeting of civilians and village authorities of various villages of Tengnoupal sub-division held on May 18 was presided by Commander 26 Sector AR of Hqs IG AR (S), informed an AR PRO release.
During the meeting held at 18 AR Bn Hqs, the Commander interacted with leaders of several social and youth organisations of the sub-division and discussed about social awareness, rural upliftment, development projects and prevailing security situation, added the release.

TV, DTH donated
IMPHAL, May 22: A DTH and a TV set was donated to the remote hamlet of Maram Ramlong by 22 AR of 10 Sector under Hqs IG AR (S) yesterday.
The AR team successfully installed and demonstrated functioning of the DTH with 33 channel, informed an AR PRO release adding that this facility will go a long way in enhancing the overall education and awareness among the local community, particular among the children and students.

Judge given additional charge
IMPHAL, May 22: In concurrence with the Gauhati High Court, it has been notified that Judge, Special Court (Electricity), Manipur West shall exercise the functions and powers of Judge Special Court (Electricity), Manipur East until further order in addition to his normal duties with immediate effect, informed a release issued by Secretary (Law) S Sukumar.
Medical camp
IMPHAL, May 22: A free medical was organised at Sarik village under Hiyanglam A/C by the Chief Medical Officer, Thoubal and Sarik Village Council today.
Altogether 220 people were examined and provided free medicines during the camp conducted by 10 medical staff including 5 doctors.

Committee accuses Cachar council
IMPHAL, May 22: The All Rongmei Development Committee, Jiribam has charged the Poupei Chapriak Research and Development Council, Cachar, Assam with misleading the people of Zeliangrong community and Rongmei in particular, reports our Jiribam correspondent.
The Committee asserted that the said Council has been constituted by persons of vested interest who are fooling the ignorant Rongmei populace settling in Barak valley of Assam.
The Committee also charged that the Council has distorted the day and date of Rongmei indigenous religious belief. Notably, the followers of the Council observe ‘Chakaan Gaan Ngai’ in the month of November in contrary to January month in which majority of Rongmei people celebrate. The Committee has further appealed to the Rongmei people of Cachar, Assam to avoid the Council for good.

AMADA flayed
IMPHAL, May 22: Local people of Mayang Langjing Taning and Tamang have come out strongly against the excesses committed on one Saikhom Ongbi Sanahanbi by AMADA. Sanahanbi had been reportedly picked up by AMADA from her house in connection with her involvement in the attempt of trafficking a 5-year old girl from Manipur to Nagaland. Addressing a press conference at Mayang Langjing Tamang Community Hall today, representatives of Mayang Langjing Tamang Development Committee, Mayang Langjing Tamang Youth Library Club, Mayang Langjing Taning Development Committee and local Meira Paibis contended that the charges levelled against Sanahanbi are not full-proof and should have properly investigated into the matter before taking any final decision.

Bomb retrieved
IMPHAL, May 22: Troops of 34 Assam Rifles retrieved a hand grenade reportedly left by some unidentified persons along with a note inscribed with the word PULF written on it from a shop at Yairipok Bazar at around 2.30 pm today. According to report, armed outfit PULF has demanded Rs 6 lakhs from the shop-keepers of Yairipok Bazar.

IMPHAL, May 22: The political convention of Rash- triya Janta Dal (RJD), Mani-pur, Sugnu Kendra was held at Standard English School, Sugnu yesterday.
The convention was attended by RJD Manipur president Wahengbam Ni-pamacha as chief guest and Chandel A/C MLA Thang-kholun as functional presi- dent. Party MLA Hellalu-ddin Khan, National secre- tary of the party S Natum were among the prominent leaders who attended and spoke at the convention attended by many party workers. Prior to the commencement of the conven- tion, a newly constructed office building of RJD Su-gnu Kendra was inaugura- ted by the chief guest.

FCS officials suspended

IMPHAL, May 22: In connection with the mysterious disappearance of the PDS rice allotted to Senapati district for the month of Nov- ember last year, one FCS Inspector and a Delivery Ass- istant have been suspend-ed. Inspector Lawrence and Delivery Assistant L Ibom-cha, attached to Senapati DC office were suspended acting on report of the enquiry instituted into the scam.
The enquiry was instituted following seizure of 2120 quintals of BPL rice under the Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS) along with challans for lifting the rice from a private godown located at Mantripukhri on January 3 this year by FCS Minister Y Erabot. It has also been directed that the suspe-nded officials should not leave station without permi-ssion of the Deputy Commi- ssioner, Senapati district.
Sports quota: Students who are applying for the MBBS/BDS entrance test at RIMS under the ‘sports quota’ have been informed to submit acheivement/sports certificates along with two photocopy of the document duly attested by a gazetted officer to the office of Directorate of Youth Affairs and sports, Khuman Lampak within May 27.
