Five UG cadres held

IMPHAL, Apr 22: Five UG cadres and a sympathiser have been pulled by Imphal East commandos in the last 48 hours.
A press release issued by SP Imphal East Th Radheshyam informed that one KYKL cadre identified as Salam Shyamkumar alias Ibomcha (26) s/o S Shyamkesho of Arong Makha Leikai was apprehended by Kwakeithel Leimajam Leikai along with a demand letter at about 3.10 pm yesterday.
A sympathiser of the proscribed PREPAK identified as Dipak Gupta alias Dipak (36) s/o Debeshwar Gupta of Paona Bazar was also pulled up Khurai Tilipati at about 6 pm yesterday.
This was followed by arrest of a PREPAK cadre from Thambalkhong at about 11.30 last night.
The cadre is identified as Leimapokpam Boby alias Sana (26) s/o L Achoubi if Thambalkhong Lisham Leirak.
On verification, he disclosed that he was involved in the hijacking of a Tata truck on April 8 which was recovered by Imphal East commandos from Huidrom Pourabi.
Further two more PREPAK cadres have also been apprehended this morning.
While Ningthoujam Bikananda alias Beb Meitei (23) s/o N Kumar of Yaingangpokpi Sana Ingkhol was pulled up from a rented house of Tarung village, the other cadre identified as Sanjenbam Chitaranjan alias Koba (36) s/o S Noyon of Sega road Khwairakpam Leikai was arrested from Keisampat oil station
One KCP (MC) cadre identified as Leimapokpam Punil alias Ibungo (27) s/o L Joy of Khurai Thangjam Leikai was also pulled up from his locality at about 4 am today, conveyed the release.
Training programme ends
IMPHAL, Apr 22: The training cum demonstration programme organised exclusively for fisher-women by the All India Women’s Conference, Manipur State branch under the sponsorship of National Fisheries Development Board, Hyderabad at Tokpa Ching village community since April 13 concluded today with a simple function.
The concluding function was addressed by retired Joint Director of Fisheries Department Kh Chandra Singh and National and State awardee in pisciculture S Surchandra as resource persons.
The resource persons explained on preparation of ponds for fish rearing and rearing of different varieties fish profitably. The function which was attended by more than 50 fisher-women culminated with distribution of certificates to the trainees.
Assn urges
IMPHAL, Apr 22: Backward People’s Welfare Act- ion Association, Nungba has urged the Governor of Manipur to enforce the provisions of Article-371-C(2) of the Constitution of India and direct the State of Mani-pur to hold the election of the Autonomous District Councils in the Hill areas of Manipur. In a memorandum submitted to the Governor, Assn president Angam Kamei also urged for withdrawing the functioning of the Panchayats/Municipa-lities/Town Committees from the hill areas.
AR refutes
IMPHAL, Apr 22 : Reacting to the allegations raised by the local people of Yairipok and published in the State dailies following the killing two by Assam Rifles troops on April 18, the PRO of Assam Rifles in a statement today said that the two slain youths belonged to the proscribed PULF (Azad) faction.
The PRO said that follo-wing inputs about the pre- sence of S/S assistant finance secretary, Md Mustafa and S/S pvt Abdul Aziz alias Tomba of the finance department of PULF (Azad) and their group commander Md Sana in Yairipok Tulihal village, security forces established multiple ambushes/mobile vehicle check post s on all roads leading to Yairipok Tulihal.
House to house search operation was also conducted, said the PRO and added that the two slain PULF cadres escaped from the village taking a less utilised road. They were however confronted by the security forces, said the statement and claimed that they were killed in retaliatory firing.
The allegations that they were first arrested with their legs tied and later done to death are baseless and wrong, asserted the PRO.
Khongjom Day
IMPHAL, Apr 22: To facilitate movement of people who would like to offer their tribute and homage to the martyrs on the occasion of Khongjom Day, the Transport Department of the State Government would be arranging conveyance from in front of Ist MR Gate tomorrow.
All those who like to avail the facility may come at the spot at 6 am tomorrow, acco-rding to a statement issued by District Transport Offi-cer of Imphal East today.
Fire mishap
IMPHAL, Apr 22: Three rooms of the Sendra Junior Boys School located under the jurisdiction of Moirang police station have been burnt in a fire mishap at about 10. 10 am today.
The three rooms apparently caught fire when the fire put on in a nearby spot to burn waste materials was blown towards the room by a gusty wind.
BSF IG calls on Dr Sidhu
IMPHAL, Apr 22: Inspector General of Border Secu- rity Force’s Frontier headquarters PK Mishra called on the Governor Dr SS Si-dhu and discussed on the prevailing security scena-rio in the State at the Raj Bhavan today. The IG, who is on a three day visit to the State had earlier met CM O ibobi Singh and State police chief Y Joykumar for in-depth discussion on the prevailing situation in the state as well as on operational matters, informed a BSF release. Moreover, during his stay here, PK Mishra covered Chura-chandpur, Bishnupur and Imphal East districts during his field visits in addition to interacting with local populace and listening to their (locals) problems. He (Mi-shra) reiterated commitment of the BSF towards a humane view in dealing with insurgency and safeguarding the honour and dignity of the people of Manipur, the release added.

IMPHAL, Apr 22: The two day yoga and naturopathy awareness programme organised by Manipur youth Forum under the sponsorship of National Institute of Naturopathy, Pune was he-ld on April 20, 21 at Kangla Sangomshang with CMO of Nature Cure Hospital Dr Kala, Senior physician of Nature Cure and Yoga Research Hospital, Porompat Dr Pramodini as the resour-ce persons. demonstration on the related subject was given by Dr M Bijoy.
RHM camp
IMPHAL, Apr 22: A day-long ‘outreach reproduc- tive and free child health medical camp’ was held at Molkon PHSC today under the aegis of District Health Mission Society, Senapati as a part of the National Rural Health Mission programme.
The programme was attended by specialist doc- tors from District Hospital (Senapati), Medical officers of various institutions of Sadar Hills and personnel of National Rural Health Mission blocks.
In all 312 persons were check and medicines provided free of cost to the needy patients.
