North East woman molested again!

DELHI, NOVEMBER 4:: Yet again, today evening around 5.30 pm in Safdarjung Enclave, a woman of 22 years old from North East was openly molested in a public place. She Resides in Munirka and is a Mayon-Naga...

She was visiting her ailing aunt who stays in Safdarjung Enclave when a man of 28 years old who belongs to the locality molested her openly.

Being a fresher in Delhi who is pursuing a Physiotherapy course from Delhi University she was at first helpless though she try to protest verbally. The report says that the man in response threatened to beat her up for answering him back while still touching her in an abusive way. Meanwhile another North East woman who was passing by rush to the spot and together they beat the accused till he was forced to asked for forgiveness.

“I want to file complain but when I dialed 100 no one picked up the phone. I dialed several times still I was unable to receive a response from them.” said Asung (name changed) “I felt so humiliated and hurt as many people were watching the scene. I felt discriminated so much that I did not realized when I slapped him. I kick him hard on his stomach too. After that the other North East girl joined me and later called her friends who stay in Safdarjung for help.”
On being ask why she did not file an FIR, she replied, “There were many people who ask forgiveness on behalf of the rogue. Even some old men came with folded hands and ask me to forgive him. Those North East men who came to inquire and help me were very much angry but being a Christian if we don’t forgive him, there won’t be any different between him and us”

Remembering the North East Pamphlet issued my Robin Hibu and the terms hinted by some media about North East women ways of scanty dressing, I was compelled to asked Asung about her dress code when the incident took place. “I was wearing a tee-shirt and a jean” was her reply.

NE girls lose jobs

NEW DELHI, Oct 28: A manager of a New Delhi Call Centre made sexual advan-ces to two young girls from the North East region and then stopped their salary besides suspending them from work when they resisted his overtures.

The victims have lodged a complaint in this regard with the NE Support Centre and Helpline, said a release of the Support Centre.

According to the initial investigation conducted by the NE Support Centre and Helpline, the two girls hail from Nagaland with their age about 23 years.

They were employed by Accurate Business Processing Outsourcing (BPO), Green Park Extension, New Delhi on September 4 this year.

The manager of Accurate BPO allegedly made sexual advances to one of them, repeatedly asking her to accompany him on many occasions. When the young woman refused, the manager then allegedly turned to her friend, but she too refused to all in the trap. In retaliation, the manager stopped the transport pick up service to bring them to the office and drop them to rented house at Safdarjung from October 12 onward. Thus, the women were forced to find their transport for returning home late at night.

The victims told the NE Support Centre and Helpline that the manager abused them in the office and told them not to attend the office any more. The salary for the month of September has also been denied to the victims.

The NE Support Centre and Helpline has not received any response from the side of the Call Centre in connection with the complaint.

Spokesperson of the Helpline, Madhu Chandra said that racial discrimination in the National capital has increased in many forms and women from the North East and other tribal-dominated States such as Orissa and Chhattisgarh are victims of sexual abuses and harassment in work places.

It may be recalled here that a week ago, a girl from Manipur was molested by a tenant in Mahipalpur and the Duty Officer of Vasanj Kunj Police Station refused to register case until the media intervened. The accused was arrested but the police failed to book a case under SC/ST Prevention of Atrocity Act though the victim belongs to ST community.

NE Support Centre and Helpline (www.nesupportcentre.blogspot.com) is a joint initiative of various human rights activists, social workers, students, journalists and lawyers seeking to prevent harassment and abuses meted to North East people and tribal communities of other States.
