JFM progress discussed in a joint meeting
IMPHAL, Apr 30: In retrospection of the work progress of JFM in Nungba sub-division (Nungba, Noney Ranges), a joint meeting between the Forest Department, Tamenglong district and Nungba Citizens’ Council was held on April 17 at the DFO office, Mantripukhri, Imphal. The meeting minutely discussed the ongoing process of implementing JFM in Nungba and Noney ranges under DFO L Gopal Singh and ROs of the district. The meeting felt that in the absence of any mineral resources, the Central Government has sanctioned JFM scheme as an alternative means of preventing deforestation through Jhuming and shifting cultivation traditionally being practised by the hill people for their livelihood. Accordingly, the meeting decided to conduct a joint inspection of the works (EPA) being carried out in different villages and resolved that those JFMCs which were found carrying out their works not satisfactorily will be recommended for exclusion from implementation of the scheme. In a statement, NCC secretary MS Franky has also appealed to concerned to make a speedy progress of the work and increase the area under the scheme to 2000 hectares for the Tamenglong district.
Drug trafficker banished
IMPHAL, Apr 30: In connection with its drive against illicit drug trafficking and keeping with its earlier resolution penalising drug traffickers and dealers with imprisonment or banishment, Karong Senapati Town Committee has asked one woman identified as Marina (21) w/o Paveini of Phuba village, but staying at River valley colony of Senapati who was caught red-handed while peddling heroin powder, to move out of the jurisdiction of the Committee within seven days from today.
Totlangkang festival 2008
Imphal, Apr 30: The 3rd Lamkang community cultural festival ‘Totlangkam Festival, 2008’ will start from May 1 till May 3 at Lamkang-Naga Kver Kunpun (LNKK) headquarters at Phaidaam village in Chandel district of Manipur with much cultural extravaganzas. Organised by the LNKK, the festival will be held under the theme ‘Indigenous Culture is our Identity’. Outer Manipur MP Mani Cheranamei will grace the festival as the chief guest on May 2, while MLAs Thangkholun Haokip and Morung Makunga and Ashokumar, IAS, DC Chandel district will be the guests of honour and the president respectively. Informing this to NNN through a press communiqué, the member of Central Organising Committee Stephen Lamkang said that indigenous cultural dances, folk songs, traditional high-jump over Mithun known as ‘sil ka klan’, inauguration of indigenous platform ‘arka’, releasing of souvenir and monuments, etc will be the main attractions of the festival while extending invitation to all and sundry.
Accused house master expelled from locality

IMPHAL, Apr 30: In connection with ill-treatment of Pinky, a young girl working as domestic help, a public meeting held today has decided to expel contractor Thiyam Rajgopal of Wang-khei Ningthem Pukhri Ma- pal and his family members from the locality.
The public meeting held at the office complex of Nupi Khunai Chaokhat Lup located at Ningthem Pukhri Mapal was also attended by members of Maharaj Garibniwas Memorial Club, LCP, Nupi Khunai Chaokhat Lup and representatives from Heirok, the birthplace of Pinky.
Wife of Rajgopal, Thiyam Ongbi Kunjeshori admitted to ill-treatment of Pinky and sought the forgiveness of the people during the meeting.
Inspite of that the meeting resolved that Rajgopal and his family members should leave the locality within 10 days.
The meeting further resolved Rajgopal should be held responsible if any person is intimidated in connection with this incident. The meeting also resolved that Pinky would be handed over to Children Home facilitated by Child Line.

IMPHAL, Apr 30: The fish farmers training and demonstration progamme con- ducted by the National Association of Fishermen, Manipur State Unit under the sponsorship of National Fisheries Develop- ment Board, Hyderabad concluded at the village community hall of Laphupat Tera in Imphal West district today.
National vice chairman of NAF Mettu Prasad and fomer Inspector of Schools and National awardee N Chaoba Singh graced the valedictory function as chief guest and president respectively.
Vaccine clearance
IMPHAL, Apr 30: Allaying apprehension, if any, following reports of four children dying in Tamil nadu after measles vaccination, the Family Welfare Services, Govt of Manipur has clarified that there is no cause for such worry in the State as measles vaccines are being procured from/supplied by the Pune-based Serum Institute of India.
further conveying that measles vaccines responsible for the children’s demise in the southern State were found to be supplied by Indian Immunological Ltd (IIL), a release issued by the Additional Director (FWS) urged all concerned to persist with the measles vaccination activities as vaccines supplied to the State is safe in all aspects.
PC cut demand decried, protest to be staged

Education, Government of Manipur by many organisations to give their percentages
of the plan amount sanctioned in the name of the Higher Education Department,
a special meeting of the officers and staff of the Directorate
today resolved to sit for a on-day protest
on May 2 at the gate of the Directorate.
In the event of non-response/non-exemption from any quarters, the meeting further resolved that the
Directorate shall be kept under lock and key atleast for one week as mark of protest, according to a statement issued by Additional Director of University and Higher Education RK Chaoba Singh, who chaired the meeting.
Union Secy
IMPHAL, Apr 30: Joint Secretary of Union Ministry of Home Affairs North- east in-charge Navin Bur-ma would be arriving at Imphal on May 2 to attend a meeting of the Kangla Fort Board to be chaired by Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, accor- ding to an official source. The meeting to be attended by Joint Secretary Navin Burma who is also a member of the Kangla Fort Board would finalise the work programmes of the Board for the financial year. After attending the meeting, the Joint Secretary would leave Imphal for New Delhi on the following the day.
JK Pillai
IMPHAL, Apr 30: Secretary of Union Commerce and Industries JK Pillai who is scheduled to arrive here on a three-day visit on May 6 is expected to go to Churachandpur and attend a workshop there.
During his stay in the State, the Union Secretary would also go to inspect the Passion Fruit Plants at Mao.
After attending a joint meeting of the officials of the Horticulture, Agriculture and Commerce and Industries
Departments and Bank representatives to be held at the conference hall of the Old Secretariat on May 7, the Union Secretary would leave Imphal on the following day.

IMPHAL, Apr 30: As part of the ‘military civic action project’ troops of 10 JAK LI of 26 Sector under HQs IGAR (S) conducted medical camp at village Phaisangjang on April 29 during which 300 civilians of Phaisangjang and nearby villages availed free treatment and medicines, said a PRO IGAR (S) release.

IMPHAL, Apr 30: In connection with the ensuing erection of 132 KV looping in looping out at 132 KV S/S at Kongba to facilitate regular power supply in Imphal East and parts of Imphal West district areas, routes for stringing of conductors will pass through Lairenpat, Takhok Mapal, hill lock of Irilbung Water Supply Scheme, Sandang Semba village, Uran Loukol, chiru village, Andro village, An-dro Sanapat etc, informed a release issued by Executive Engineer, Transmission Construction Div No I.
Meanwhile, it also urged the public to extend cooperation for expeditious completion of the work so that power supply to the specified area could be restored at the earliest.
