RJD eyes ADC polls

IMPHAL, Jun 6: Showing keen interest in the Autonomous District Council elec- tions, Chandel A/C MLA Thangkholun Haokip sta-ted that there is the need for the RJD to start preparations for the ADC polls from now onwards so that the party assumes power in District Councils.
Speaking at a meeting of the party’s Hill District Council at the Sanjenthong residence of RJD Chandel district president Limjalet Haokip today, Thangkho-lun exuded that RJD can score commendable victory if the party is strengthened in all the hill districts.
He further claimed that coalition partners of the SPF Govt––Congress, CPI and RJD, are working together under a mutual understanding. Maintaining that there is no binding condition that RJD MLAs should be Ministers, Thangkholun hailed CM O Ibobi as working sincerely in the interest of the people. He further called upon the bigger tribes to ensure success of candidates belonging to smaller tribes in the ADC polls. This would not only enhance trust among the different ethnic groups but would also help in accelerating development, the MLA said.
RJD vice-president Chungkhei Haokip called upon the party workers to ensure that RJD grasp power in District Councils which strength has been increased to 28 from the previous 18 including two Govt nominees. RJD district presidents and secretaries of Churachandpur, Chandel and Sa- dar Hills exuded that the party will be able to claim power in District Councils.

IMPHAL, Jun 6: The identity of the person slain last night by unidentified gunmen at Kongba Nongthom- bam Leikai under Porompat Police Station has been established as Lairellakpam Angonao alias Anthony (26) of Khurai Thoidingjam Leikai. Claiming that the deceased is innocent, JAC has been constituted against the killing and staged sit-in-protest at Khurai Thoidi- ngjam Leikai today.
The protesters also blo-cked Imphal-Ukhrul road in the evening till the last rites of Angonao were comp-leted.
According to family me-mbers, Angonao was pick- ed up yesterday evening at around 5 pm by four/five unifentified gunmen who came in a steel coloured Scorpio when he was sitting at Nanao Activa Servicing Centre of Lamlong Keithel.
Refuting the charge that Angonao is an informer, family members said that the deceased is not related to any armed group or security forces.
They expressed suspicion that Angonao had become a victim of mistaken identity as his name is not ‘Santosh’ as written in a piece of paper found in his pocket, “Santosh was awa-rded capital punishment for being an informer, others associated with him should stop being informers”.
Workshop held
UKHRUL, Jun 6:A three-day Workshop on Child Rights and Juvenile Justice (JJ) Act, 2000 was organized at Ukhrul from June 3 to 5 at Tangkhul Theological Association conference hall.
The programmed was jointly organized by Participatory Action for Sustain- able Development Organization (PASDO) and Child Welfare Committee, Ukhrul with support from Department of Social Welfare, Manipuir and Child Rights and You (CRY) , Kolkota. The workshop was attend-ed by around 48 members from different NGOs, CBOs and Government officials.
ZSU appeals
IMPHAL, Jun 6: The Zeliangrong Students’ Union (ZSU), Barak Valley has appealed to the authorities concerned for disbursal of wages under NREGS to every deserving job card holders living in area from Phaitual to Barak along National Highway 53 in Tamenglong district either in kind or cash, reports our Jiribam correspondent.
The student body has also warned against partiality in disbursal of the wages and said it would sternly deal with the matter.

IMPHAL, Jun 6: While informing shop-owners to register their commercial establishment so as to facili- tate issuance of licence, a statement of the Imphal Municipal Council issued by its Chairperson A Jiwan-lata Devi conveyed that appointment orders of two toll tax sites and nine parking slots have been annu- lled.
Asking shop-owners to complete registration procedures within June 30, the IMC cautioned that failure to comply would entail legal action under relevant laws.
With regard to the annulment of the toll tax and parking slots, the statement cautioned all concerned that in case of insistence on parking fees or toll tax collections by unauthorised agents the IMC should not be held responsible.
The annulment order was passed on March 28, 2008, the statement added.

IMPHAL, Jun 6: North Eastern Industrial and Te-chnical Consultancy Orga- nisation Ltd (NEITCO), Gu-wahati will organise a one day workshop cum awareness building programme for growth of Micro Small Enterprises and creation of self employment in the sector at conference hall of Sta- te Guest House on June 9.
Governor SS Sidhu will inaugurate the programme as chief guest with Commerce and Industry Minis- ter Y Erabot also attending programme.

IMPHAL, Jun 6: A state level essay competition on the topic “Fight Against Corruption” for graduate and post graduate students will be organised under the aegis of the Senior Citizens for Society.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here today, coordinator of Senior Citizens for Society Dr Moirangthem Nara said that the essay competition is under its campaign ag-ainst corruption.
He said that interested students may submit their entries on or before June 18 at the office of the society located at Nagamapal RIMS corner. The entries may be in English or Manipuri but should not exceed 2000 words, he explained.
The best three entries will be awarded cash prizes of Rs 2000, Rs 1500 and Rs 1000 respectively besides certificates. The next best two entries will receive consolation prize of Rs 700 each, he said.
Prizes will be distributed on June 22 at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen at Palace Compound. During the prize distribution which would also feature cultural programmes, the prize winning participants will be given the chance to read out their essays, Dr Nara said.
Taking part in the press meet, president of the society N Binoy said that the essay competition is aimed at assessing the views and opinions of students on corruption and to generate certain ideas on anti-corruption movement.
Binoy said that the initiative is aimed at genera- ting certain ideas which would help save Manipur.

IMPHAL, Jun 6: The Orchid Foundation, Sagol- band Nepra Menjor Mam-ang Leikai, Imphal West will organise a “2-day Natu-ro-pathic Awareness Camp” on Jun 9 and 10 at Khong-man Zone-II, under the sponsorship of NIN, Pune, informed a release issued by Orchid Foundation president W Sunil Singh.
Resource persons from different institutions will deliver talks on naturecure and yoga, the release said.
