MPHAL, Sep 16: Three youths out of five, travelling in a car, have been wounded in firing by police comman-dos at MG Avenue area this evening.
In connection with the incident, four personnel of 5th bn IRB attached to police commando unit have been placed under suspension.
According to a police report, a team of police commandos deployed at MG Avenue area opened fired at around 7 pm as their signal to halt was not heeded by occupants of a maruti car that reportedly was also involved in ramming three other vehicles and tried to speed away from the scene.
The car (MN06L/0428) first hit a Honda Activa scooter near Khoyathong traffic point from where the vehicle sped away towards Thangal bazar even as by-standers and security personnel deployed there tried to stop it.
The speeding car then rammed at a police patrol team on motorbike near jalan Provision crossing resulting in leg injury of a personnel namely AK Umakanta.
Amid intermittent firing a hot chase ensued with the unhurt police commando joining his colleagues in a maruti Gypsy even as another commando team in a Gypsy blocked the path ahead.
Prior to bringing the Maruti car to a stop, it hit the other commando vehicle in their bid to make their escape from the area but ultimately failed.
after the car occupants were pulled out it came to light that five youngsters were inside with three of them bleeding profusely. While the three were taken to RIMS Hospital two others have been taken into custody of City police station, said a police source while adding that all the five occupants were in inebriated condition.
The injured trio have been identified as Thomas Adalo (18) s/o M Dili of Karong, Ashao LS (18) s/o KS Sane from Rabunamei village of Mao sub-division but presently residing at AK Ruhini Boys Hostel in Keishampat Leimajam Leikai and Rodhu James Paomai (20) s/o LD Seiba of Rikhumai Taphou presently staying at Nirmala Hostel also in Keishampat Leimajam leikai.
the two others detained at City PS are said to be Elowat Hisu (21) s/o L Athisu of Taphou village and S Thohrii (19) s/o nemio of Mao gate but staying at AK Ruhini Boys Hostel. All five are said to be students of coaching centres that specialises in medical entrance examination.
